2015
Lepidext was founded by Dr. Angelika Fath-Goodin and Dr. Bruce Webb, who realized that an isolate of a naturally-occurring corn earworm virus that causes increased sterility in infected insects would have potential as a biocontrol for the corn earworm
2016
Lepidext successfully identified a viral isolate that causes increased sterility
2017
Lepidext obtained a patent on this isolate
Lepidext tested the efficacy of this product in the laboratory and improved production methods and insect rearing capacity
2020
Lepidext performed the first field trials of this product, demonstrating transmission in the field and the potential of the technology
Lepidext continued to refine production and distribution methods, performed larger efficacy field trials, and conducted laboratory studies on non-target species to demonstrate the safety of large-scale application
2023
Lepidext submitted an application for EPA registration, which will allow for the treatment of larger acreages
In the coming years, Lepidext will scale the technology for commercialization
